@ conference: future of 3d virtual worlds
you dont spend your time in only one website, you move from one to another. now, same thing is bound to happen in 3d virtual worlds. does your money go with you? your clothes? i cant help but laugh at the idea of a second life character moving to world of warcraft world...

dude, it's no laughing matter! this is serious stuff!!! my SL avatar is a part of my IDENTITY... i can't just go around and change that. but let's be honest, we don't exactly have any kind of unified profiles on the web... i can't imagine it would come anytime soon for virtual worlds :P

woah Luke I'm so gonna quote you in my sociology exam tomorrow :D no honestly, its very cool seeing this post cause I'm just studying identity concepts of the postmodern age and "my SL avatar is part of my Identity" that just hits the nail on its head! you gotta go and read Sherry Turkle "Life on the Screen" - very interesting book! in fact, going with her theory, creating a unified virtual profile/identity wouldn't really make any sense... that would be like going back to the modern age which is sooooo outdated. long live the postmodernity and multiple identities!!! wohoooo

i agree, it reminds me of back in 1996 or so when i remember hearing about having only one email address... then the concept of putting them all together... i dont see it happening.
