Following Marilyn's request to make an online journal entry, here it is!
I had a deadline of 10 in the morning to finish everything on the DDN site. I was supposed to work on it Wednesday night but some problems came up and I couldn’t do anything. So I decided to get up bright and early at 7am to try to finish it on time. I had a list of things left to do, like the search feature the About Us, Copyright and Contact Us page. I also had to create pages to edit a blog post and edit an article. On top of that I had a few bugs that had to be looked after.
I decided to tackle the hardest part, the search. Since its used through the site to browse for certain articles, events, news, blogs, etc... I started coding away, and when I looked back at the clock it was 9:30 am! I still had soo much to do. I only had done the search for articles and communities, I had other 3 or 4 left to do. At one point or another Mike came online and we discussed a few changes to the article system we have in place.
I left the search half-way done and tackled that little change to articles, admin-side. Once I was looking at the code of the articles page (the first one I coded on this project) I realized some of my mistakes, some of the code was sloppy and some things didn’t work properly, they worked but not perfectly. One of them was the email system. We have in place the same thing that in Panorama, you accept or decline the article by sending a notification email to the user. But the emails were missing links and they weren't very personalized. So I changed the whole system. I also discovered some illogic code that I fixed.
Throughout this (I think by this time it was like 10:30 ) Ryann came online and asked me if there was anything she could help with. So I told her about the bugs on the site. She set out to do them! With her help I had 2 things less crossed out on my list.
At around 12, I had finished (I think) the articles system mini-revamp! After having a Michelina's rice bowl at home I set out to do the CMS pages (About Us, Contact Us, Copyright) this was easy. So after I finish those I kept building the search. I spent the next 4 and half hours coding away and fixing things I realized weren't as good as I thought, like how the news are displayed, making sure only the allowed people could see certain things, etc etc etc. I kept checking and fixing as I went along.
Time: 4:30 pm. Exhaustion! I've been up since 7am. I hadn't pulled one of these since my first year in college. I'm getting old! Around 5pm Todd came home and brought McDonalds, very welcome because I was starving.
We had dinner and after some chit-chatting I went back to work. It was 6:30 pm, time flies! I started the Edit Post page. It must have been the exhaustion or something because I didn’t finish it until 8. I gave up!
So I spent the rest of the night watching The Apprentice and ER. After that I read till 2 in the morning a Dan Brown book that's getting very interesting!.
I hope this explains what I did yesterday!
