Related to country: United States

I really cannot comprehend what kind of mental state you have to be in to decide to do such a thing. And really, there isn't much I can say about it. Its awful, period.

The media usually takes the entire ordeal so much further than it should be allowed to go. Even reading about it its morbid. Usually you read about how they were bullied, or how something made them snap, or some sort of excuse that humanizes them.

But this time, I'm not seeing it.

I am reading a lot of "shooter was a South Korean student" headlines. I actually read one article where it said "...student Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old South Korean national and resident alien." (source).

There are lot of these headings.

The fact that a shooting happened, again, makes me really sad; that the media is blaming the entire incident on the fact that he was not a US citizen, makes me angry.

Funny thing though, he was a US resident, and he had been in the US for 14 years (source) , he actually had legal right to buy that gun.

But no, lets blame it on the 'resident alien', and prejudice people from South Korea. Same thing happened in 9/11 with people from the middle east right?

Lets not look at the deeper issue here, that the kid was troubled, and that with those troubles, he was allowed to walk in a store, and buy a gun.

bad !
hi i agree with u about the predjuice from south Korea now, we saw what happened with people from the middle east and that`s awfull, but we know it`s not only people from that countries who suffer that predjuice because people from latin america suffer the same. i really wanna know what is the cause of that violence? because we can talk about differences, religion, etc... but all we are brothers and we need leave or differences outside and start a new life with love and peace for our family and friends, one guy toldl me one day "we are citizens of the world" dont forget that.
and i hope the people who died in the university rest in peace.

agree
Ok - i really need to stop reading every article published about the shootings and watching all the videos etc. It's making me lose sight of other things happening in the world equally as tragic like the 200 people killed in the Baghdad bombs today. That's the trouble when you're online 12+ hours a day. Yeah the emphasis on the "immigrant" annoys me - i'm sure the media would have gone crazy had he been an illegal immigrant.

Well, the undeniable fact is that the media and a lot of Americans are hard-core racists. I have experienced this while growing up in New York, when people used to ridcule me and compare me to that guy in the Simpsons.

When a mass crime or act of terrorism is performed by a White American, there is no such thing as a reprisal attack. Nothing happenned after the Okhaloma City bombings or after Columbine.

I agree that the dramatisation of the whole event is really quite an insult to the lives that were lost and the people's whose lives will never be the same. The event itself was major enough to have an impact - they don't need to weave some "mysterious tale" around this "foreign stranger in our midst" - but then media is becoming more and more like this it's hard to tell the difference between fact and all the glitter they throw on it to sell stories (or perhaps, at a deeper level raise a level of paranoia that has some political or commercial benefit).
