yaz's alarm adventures

8:45am So I decided to come to work early today. I go with my day as usual so I get on the subway at College. When we get to Dundas (one station down) the subway stops working for whatever reason, so I get off and start walking down to Queen St,where Todd goes to work and I planned on catching a streetcar; but as I'm getting there I see the streetcar going by. Missed it by a minute or so... The morning is very damp, street full of people and no streetcars in sight. So I decided to go down into Queen subway station to check if the subway was working. I get down, and realize that yea they are in movement again. I keep reading my newspaper while I wait for the next train to show up. Its all good. I'm going to be a little later than I wanted but hell... So as I'm in the train I raised my head and realized that I was going to wrong way! Dam%$@*#, I get off at College, back to where I started!. At least I am on my way, back south to St Andrews!.

I decided to take another route on my walk to work because I was hungry. So I stopped for a bagel and orange juice. I get to the building and almost missed the elevator, pheew. I get upstairs to the door with a bagel, orange juice, newspaper and the keys. This time I decided to put everything away (as to not make the same mistake I made Monday when I pressed to alarm button twice because I had full hands and set the alarm off [but then again nothing like this happened Monday]). I turn the key, take a deep breath and go press the password on the little machine thingie. All good, everything seems ok, BUT the thingie starts chiming! so I think ohh no.. this sounds just like Monday. I tried pressing the code again and nothing! So I pressed the pound button that Hugh said would reset it. Nothing! By then I was freaking out and dreading the awful loud sound of the alarm, but there is not much I could have done to prevent it. I did something wrong and that’s it.

Alarm goes off, press the code again (10th time by now) and it turns off! YES! But in reality I'm fairly nervous and pissed at the fact that I cant handle a little alarm box like that one but I can make a whole website work! 9:10am. As I'm walking to my desk the phone rings... its the alarm company. They asked me for a password and I said I didn’t have one, they asked my name and as soon as I said it they hung up! So I figured the phone just died or something. At this point I was soo angry, how something soo simple could get out of control! but that’s not the end of it. Mike's cell didn’t work, Marilyn cell's just rings and rings and rings, and ryann is not picking up. I didn’t have any other phones, so I go online and no one is there.

At 10am, the I hear a sound on the door but anyone who's been here knows that they just have to walk in, and from my position on the office I couldn’t see the door. So some people walk in and I realize they were COPS! 2 HUGE cops! I walk towards them and talk to them and he said they were here on an Alarm call. They took my name, address and phone number. I talked to them for a few more minutes, the smaller cop was really nice the bigger one was just walking around the office and helped himself to a cup of water.

10:15am. I'm on my desk and talking to Andrew asking him for Jen's phone number, because I needed to get a hold of someone! He says that there is a book with phone numbers in Birgit's desk. This was the first light at the end of the tunnel. I opened the book, called Jen's cell, Mike's cell, Martin's 2 cell phone numbers, Sush, Ryann again and nothing, all answering machines! I thought of calling Mike's house but I decided against it. In the meantime, the phone rings and the alarm company said they needed to talk to someone in charge, so I told them that no one in charge was here yet and that I had made the alarm go off. They said someone had to call them to give them the famous password and to say they knew who I was. I imagined at this point I'm in like their top 10 list of most wanted people! I decided to give up with the phone numbers, and figured that in about 15 minutes someone should be here.

So here I am at 10:45 in the morning writing this. I don’t think I've ever been soo embarrassed, but no better way to get over it than to laugh at it (I don’t know if I'm laughing at it yet, but I will)... Right now Marilyn is calling a bunch of people to let them know that yes they do know me and I'm not alarm fugitive of some sort.

So yeah, I hope everyone has a good day though! I'm also going to hope that the afternoon goes better than the morning for me, because if I keep up this pace Canadian Army will be chasing me by nightfall!
